10 Gallon Styrofoam Build- Day 1

Alright, so today I got some supplies to start building my own rock wall using the styrofoam method. Since this one is more of a test, I am making it for a 10 gallon tank. The humidity has been horrible around here lately so I decided to do this inside. I decided to pick up a styrofoam cutter from Hobby Lobby to cut down on the mess. Everything you see in the photo came out to about $25.

Here's a shot of the cutter. It's nothing special, just a little needle that heats up.
This will hold me over until I decide which heat knife I'm going to order.

First thing I did was mark out how big of an area I was going to work with and glue two 1/2" sheets together to build off of.

I didn't think out a design or anything before starting this so I just kinda sketched out something real quick, just to work as a guide to build on top of.

I started to carve out "rock" shapes from a third sheet to add to the double layered backing.
Here's a pic of what I ended with tonight. The fumes from cutting the styrofoam isn't the greatest. I didn't have a mask, only a bandanna tied around my face. Anyway I hope it looks good in the end. This is just the back. I think I might make sides to close everything in. We'll see how this goes.
